Happy new year to everyone!
I know its such a cliche greeting, but I couldn't be bothered to think of another. As the first post of 2009, I thought it would be nice to write something to mark this day. After all, I won't be able to blog much more with my NS enlistment drawing near in 6 days time.
First stop, NS lah. 7 January first seemed a long way off when I first received my enlistment letter
in October. Now, the number of days left can be counted with my fingers. I'm nervous and curious at the same time, of going through the period what most Singaporeans call, a process that turns "boys into men". Like it or not, 2 years will be over in a blink of an eye, I just have survive it to the end.
The A Level results should be out sometime in March. Of course, everyone hopes for the best. I am no exception, But I actually have no desire for triple As and the sort although I would not mind that! All I ask for is that I qualify for the Computer Science course at either NUS or NTU. If possible, with grades good enough so that I can take an additional minor in Political Science or Economics. In this globalised age , it pays to be multi-disciplinary.
As of now, I have been with Ying Yi for more than 3 months. I am very fortunate to have such a wonderful girlfriend like her. Too bad I can't bring her into NS... My NS period is going to be hard on us for obvious reasons. Plus she may need to go overseas for her tertiary education. Our relationship is considered infantile by any standards and yet we have to weather so many lengthy storms liao. Right now, we are enjoying the calm before the storm as much as we can. Who knows, the silver lining could be there waiting for us to discover it? We can be even closer, or drift further apart, only time will tell. But I do hope for the best!
So what do I do now before I enlist? I have been gaming alot thats for sure. I just bought this $14 8-year-old FPS/RPG game called Deus Ex
. My first impression was, Wow! Despite its age, the complexity, environmental interactivity, level of customisation and numerous alternative plots nearly blowed me away. Its no ordinary shooter game for sure, a must have but only to those who have patience. The story is slow most of the way. Will complete throughout my NS stint.
Been asked to handle computer stuff too. By Jieyang to fix his uncle's company coms. I still have an appointment with them next Monday, 2 days before enlistment! It could be one of my last few opportunities to have some fun with the innards of the PC too!
So it 2008 ends here with the ushering in of 2009. The new stage in my life. Its no longer the stage of fun of laughter anymore. I am forced to grow up whether I like it or not. With stuff like NS and a girlfriend, the days of acting like a kid (or whatever you call it) are over. The adult world is slowly drifting in, inch by inch, turning my juvenile life into mere memories. I have to just get prepared for it.
