Week wrap up

I know my blog is rather dead for this week, with my busy schedules and stuff, dun have much time to blog lah. So dun expect much posts here till after the the last SPA at 28 May.

This post is mostly about the happenings of Thursday. A NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) scientist was invited down to give a presentation during our Physics lecture. I sure dunno why would someone so prestigious come down to a neighborhood JC in the little red dot. Could his Singaporean wife be the reason?

Anyway, his talk was very interesting. He showcased the current objectives of NASA, which is to retire the Space Shuttle programme by 2010, complete designing the the new Ares rockets and Orion space vehicles, fly to the moon by 2020 and Mars at a later date etc. On paper it is to future human knowledge and fulfill the instinct to explore, behind the scenes, the US wants to maintain its technological lead in space in face of growing competition from China for example.

I shan't say much here, the video he shown us (below) summarises almost everything.

A video of a similar presentation held elsewhere (with a different speaker)

I took one hour to construct this mock shuttle from the "paper goodies" left behind by that scientist. Pencil for size reference. Flying in one is much better!

How I wish I travel to space!!! Other than buying a US$20-million dollar ticket to to step into the Russian Soyuz to go to the International Space Station, there is absolutely no other way for normal people travel to the last unexplored frontier of mankind. Maybe with the rise of private companies such Scaled composites with their SpaceShipOne, space travel for civilians could be possible within our lifetimes.

--------------------------------------------------

As expected, I failed my Chem test with a score of 9/30. With that, I have to attend a "No-end" class every Thursday 3.30pm. I have to regurgitate entire reactions/conditions, mechanisms and blah blah. Certainly not in my liking, but a necessary sacrifice to make for a smooth-sailing university admission.

Plus two SPA skill As coming up on consecutive days, really no joke. The life of a JC2 is a really a tough life.
